Belfield’s Choice Financial might just be the local delivery company’s least favorite stop. Every couple months, they receive a very weighty delivery order.

“It’s pretty heavy,” said Kristi Tessier, a Frontline Specialist at Choice Financial in Belfield. “They always have a tough job when they visit us.”

“They always have a tough job when they visit us.”

Most of the time it’s the same delivery men, so Kristi and her coworkers have grown accustomed to their strained expressions as they hoist the hefty packages onto a cart, and wheel it precariously into the office. They usually take two trips, with the cart piled high.

“But I think it should be three trips,” Kristi said, with a grin.

From there, Kristi and the team have to put the order away. This involves picking up the boxes off the floor, so they understand how heavy it really is.

That’s why, the night before one delivery day, Kristi planned for a delightful surprise to ease the frustration. She bought a handful of candy: a 100 Grand chocolate bar, and some packs of Whoppers chocolate malt balls. She used the candy to craft a clever message, one for each of their favorite delivery men.

It read:

“That sure was a WHOPPER of a delivery! Take a break and enjoy 100 GRAND. Have a Great Day!”

“I thought we could brighten their day,” she said. “It’s always fun to do something unexpected.”

Her teammate, Janet Lindbo, loved the idea. “It’s a great example of ‘Smile, be helpful, and be passionate,’ and ‘encourage innovation’” she said, referencing Choice’s core values. “Plus, she got them to smile!”

The men came in the next morning, hauling the usual load. Before they left, Kristi handed each of them the cards. One of them laughed. The other cracked a smile. For a moment, the large delivery wasn’t weighing them down.
