Closure of Your Douugh Account

Douugh is shutting down operations in the U.S. and, as a result, your Douugh account will be closed and your funds returned to you. As Douugh’s banking partner, Choice Financial Group will be assisting with the closure of your Douugh Account.

Your Douugh account will officially close on March 29, 2023. For next steps, see below.

Next Steps

You can safely and quickly transfer your funds to a different bank account now through the Douugh app. You will need to withdraw ALL your funds from your dedicated Jars to your Spending Jar before transferring out of Douugh.

Douugh U.S. will be operational through March 28, 2023, and winding down account services gradually leading up to this date, as detailed below.

On Friday, January 27, 2023

  • Your debit card issued through the Douugh program was deactivated.

On Tuesday, March 28, 2023

  • We will terminate your ability to make automatically scheduled payments, including ACH. Prior to 11:59 pm CT,  move any scheduled or recurring ACH and debit card payments to a different debit or credit card account. This can be done through the Douugh app.
  • At 11:59pm CT, we will terminate your ability to send payments from your account manually. If you have a linked account that you used to establish your account at Douugh, you can initiate a transfer of your funds to that account electronically.

On Wednesday, March 29, 2023

  • Douugh will close your account and, if applicable, the remaining balance of your account will be sent to you via check to the address you currently have on file with us.
  • Please make sure that you have updated your current address in the Douugh app.

For customers with Douugh Wealth Portfolio accounts:

Douugh will be operational through Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

  • Prior to this date, go to the app and withdraw your investments.

On Wednesday, March 29, 2023

  • Douugh will close your Douugh Wealth account and send any remaining available balances to you. Any investment amounts not previously liquidated will be liquidated and the cash positions directed to your linked account that you used to establish your Douugh account. If you do not initiate a transfer before 11:59 PM CST on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, we will mail a check to your address currently on file.
  • Please make sure that you have updated your current address in the Douugh app.

Why is Douugh no longer providing financial services in the United States?  
Douugh has decided to discontinue its services in the United States. Douugh does do business in Australia and will continue their presence in the financial sector there.

When is Douugh no longer going to be available?
Douugh will officially close your accounts on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. All cards and payment facilities will no longer work on or after this date.

How does this impact customers right now?
Important Dates
You will need to update your scheduled and automatic payments prior to the following dates. We also recommend downloading your statements as needed for personal record retention.

  • On January 27, 2023, Douugh terminated your ability to use your debit card issued through the Douugh program.
  • On February 26, 2023, Douugh will terminate your ability to make deposits and receive payments, including by direct deposit.
  • On February 26, 2023, Douugh will terminate your ability to make automatically scheduled payments.
  • On March 29, 2023, Douugh will close your account and send the remaining available balance to you via check to the address listed on your account.

I’m losing money because of this. What are the tax implications of investment liquidation?
We understand the frustration of liquidating your wealth management account with Douugh. Unfortunately, this is a necessary step to wind down business and ensure you’re able to transfer your funds prior to the closure of Douugh Wealth accounts.

Is my money safe? Can I trust FinTechs?
Even if your financial technology provider no longer offers service, you can expect to have access to your money and move it to a new provider.

How do I unlink my accounts on my Douugh app?
I missed the deadline to unlink an old account and the address on file is not up to date. What do I do?

How do I update my direct deposits and electronic payments?
Most electronic payments can be managed online through the business’s website. We recommend contacting the business directly to request any changes to your automatic deposits/payments.

Can you cut me a cashier’s check right now?
We ask that customers move their money out of their Douugh accounts electronically to ensure you have access to the funds in a timely manner. Mailing a cashier’s check leaves you guessing when it will arrive and if the check has been lost in the mail. If you take no action on your Douugh account by 11:59 PM CST on March 28, 2023, a check will be mailed to the address on your account.

My card stopped working, what’s going on?
Douugh has decided to discontinue its services in the United States. As a result, we communicated with active account customers on December 28, 2022, that accounts would be closed and funds returned. If you do not take any action prior to 11:59 PM CST on March 28, 2023, a check will be mailed to the address on your account.

My social security money went into my Douugh account. What do I do?
SSA sent my money to my Douugh account and they haven’t received a return, what do I do?
